Happy Professional Engineers Day!

August 2nd, 2023 marks the 8th annual Professional Engineers Day as declared by the South Dakota Engineering Society (SDES), in conjunction with the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem has also proclaimed August 2nd, 2023, as Professional Engineers Day in South Dakota. Noem is joined by Sioux Falls Mayor TenHaken, Pierre Mayor Harding, and Rapid City Mayor Salamun who all proclaimed the day as Professional Engineers Day in their cities. In the proclamations, these dignitaries recognize licensed professional engineers as dedicated to applying scientific knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to develop solutions for technical, societal, and commercial problems while holding paramount the public health, safety, and welfare.

In the proclamation of Professional Engineers Day, they also recognize the significant contributions South Dakota’s nearly 1100 licensed Professional Engineers have made on a local and national scale and cited that South Dakota’s economy has grown, in part, because its licensed professional engineers are instrumental to the state. In addition to over 170 private firms and companies employing engineers, South Dakota is unique due to the many professional engineers working here for federal, state, and local government agencies.
